Finishing the Project for National Quilting Day from From My Carolina Home

On to the finish, the final part of the project was to add the completed flowers to the base. I wanted these to be as dimensional as the leaves. I placed the flower on the base at the end of the stem and pinned the center. Then to see how it would look, I lifted the petals and pinned only the tips down. 

Then I pinned down the other two flowers on their stems.

Folding back the petals, I stitched only around the center underside, leaving most of the petal free.

Appliqué Academy: Pineapple Medallion from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye


The pineapple has been a symbol of welcome for many generations, and our Pineapple Medallion will do just that as it hangs in your home. This dimensional block was inspired by a fabric we purchased last year. When we saw the design, we knew that we needed to translate it into a medallion and hopefully a future quilt. We also knew that it would be perfect block to teach at the Academy of Appliqué in Williamsburg, Virginia. This will be our second session class, March 2-4, 2023.

Wonderful Williamsburg from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Last week, we enjoyed a fantastic time in Williamsburg, Virginia. We spent the first half of the day on Sunday visiting the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton before we headed back to Kingsmill Resort to set up our classroom for the Academy of Appliqué. More will follow from the Quilt Festival in the near future. Please enjoy some of the highlights of the classes we taught last week.
